hot relay, what does it all mean?

1987 760t: My relay, labled "j" in the ECU, the one that somehow works with the power windows, always gets incredibly hot while i drive. i drive with the windows down (i have no ac (not until i fix it that is)) but it's not like i'm rolling and unrolling them for fun. so what does a hot relay mean?
thanks for the help,
trina

When the car is running, the relay is always energized allowing the power win dows to work. You could take the relay out, take the cover off and drill some small holes to allow air to curculate.

Heat means high resistance. There is a bad connections somewhere. This also happened to my 740T. The plastic relay socket melted a bit and the small mounting clips broke.

You could do what I did, eliminate the relay by making a small 'Y' jumper and just plug the ends into the socket, in the right places of course. The advantage is the windows always work and the aux pusher fan will help cool the car off when it's hot.
