Will a '81 245 tailgate fit on an '86 245? 200

I found one without rust and I need it to replace my rusty one...

want to make sure before shelling out the dough to the salvage yard!

    Jack;

    Since no one has answered this yet, I'll say this. I don't know for sure, but I had an '86 tailgate put in my '83 wagon. Just not sure how far back the tailgates are interchangable.

    Does the 81 'gate have the wiper? Can you take the tailgate back if it doesn't fit? Local PnP's here allow returns. Might be worth the try if they do.

      The '81 does have the wiper...

      the hinges look the same...

      I have 10 days to return the part if it doesn't work... problem here is I'm not sure that I'm gonna be able to take the time to put the new one on in those 10 days!

      the only thing the '81 doesn't have is the center brake light in the window....

      cost is $25 so it might be worth the risk....

      I'll do more searching on the board to see if it's already been answered somewhere but it's encouraging to know that the '86 went back to an '83...

      it sure looks to me that Volvo didn't make many changes in these tailgates...

      wonder what a blue Volvo will look like with a tan tailgate! :>)
