Has anyone attempted to drill holes into the door mounts and through the grills to hold the grills on?

Yes, the plastic tabs in the forward portion of my front door grills broke off.
I drilled a small hole towards the front and center portion of each grill, attached a small rubber washer(to prevent any vibration)and shot a 1.25" drywall screw in. You can't see them when the doors are closed and they hold perfectly.

Isn't silicone or double-sided tape easier?
