How to remove rear of headliner? Please 200 1991

How do I drop the rear of headliner, I need to replace tailgate harnesses and I found bits of info. on doing the job here but went to drop the back of headliner with a flathead screwdriver to pry from roof and it is not wanting to move and I don't want to force it and damage it. I am new to this forum but am reading it regularly and very greatful that it's here!

How to remove rear of headliner? Please 200 1991

    Hi Lenny

I just recently did this job on my 1990 240 wagon. I also thought the headliner would be a problem, but it turned out to be the simplest part of the job.

Dont use anything other than your fingers. Just grab a hold of it along the edge where it folds back under the roof and stretch it out. If you cant grab it with your fingers, carefully use a pair of wide flat pliers to grip it and pull it out. It has a black plastic inner edage sewn on I think. It comes off very easy, no need for sharp objects. It goes back just as easily as it came off.

Good luck with it. I found the hinges to be a bit of a pain. The old wires were covered in a black sticky substance to help hold them in place. I just spliced in new sections of wires. There is a plug under the roof lining that you will see once peeling back the lining. The plug is inside a piece of foam that is also stuck to the body.

    Good luck
