Check Engine Light 700 1990

I had a problem with my fuel system, I found out that it was the computer. a friend from the dealer said I could ground the fuel pump relay. This would allow the car to run and it did. My check engine light just recently came on. When I was trying to accerate the turbo kicked in and a large amount of black smoke came out. The car then had a total loss of power, it seemed to get better after around 5 miles. The car seems hesitate and still blows smoke when I get into turbo. Any suggestions to help fix the problem would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a check engine light on, your onboard diagnostic system will contain one or more fault codes that will give you a clue as to where to start looking. You can find out how to access the codes in the FAQ.

well, black smoke is bad, i wouldn't drive around with black smoke for very long at all.

black indicates you're burning rich (too much fuel) and thus it (everything in general) will get much hotter than its supposed to, leading to things getting destroyed left and right.

pull the code from your OBD and see what it gives you.

but that grounding thing doesn't sound like it was a very good 'solution' at all
