Automatic Overdrive not engaging 700

My Overdrive on my 89 745 will not engage anymore. For the last few months, the OD light on the dash would glow and the OD will be delayed in engaging. Now it doesnt engage at all. Solenoid? Relay? what is the mostlikely problem? And if its the Solenoid, can anyone give me a step by step to replace it, cuz I cant find anything in my haynes manual about it... thanx

    You also might check the switch, under the button on the gearshift. Just pop it out, disconnect the wire and replace it with a new one. They are not too expensive. I got mine from IPD. My '89 745 was kicking in and out of OD, sometimes it would work, sometimes not. Fixed it up real nice.

    Based on your description of the problem it seems most likely that the fluid filter in the transmission has become plugged. This would account for the slow, but progressive, failure. You need to have it removed and cleaned.
