headliner probs!!! 700 1989

Hi, it's me again. I got the excess glue off the new headliner material. Now I have a different problem! I am an idiot. I went ahead and cut the sunroof hole out before putting the new headliner back in the car. I did not leave 3/4" beyond the edge (as the IPD instructions suggests). I cut it flush. Now reading all of the instructions before attempting it, must be the first thing you do if you are contemplating to tackle this job! Do as I say, not as I do! Anyone out there have a solution for me? I don't have that excess material to tuck in the trim around the edge of the sunroof? By the way, should I replace that trim piece? Thanks in advance, I hope.

there is no solution, you are screwed. If you want to do it right suck it up, go to a fabric store, and buy yourself a new piece of headliner material (1/8") to replace the one you butchered. Consider it a learning error that will only cost you $70 to rectify (price of teh material).

you could apply massive extra glue to the headliner around that edge and hold it on until it sticks to the roof/headliner backing board, but its going to be nasty, and the various movements of teh headliner (from wind, opening and closing the sunroof, etc.) will rip it free over time.

Here's what I did when I replaced my headliner (I had to cut the extra material off to get it out of the car).
I took light tan tape and taped the edge of the material and around the metal perimeter of the sun roof opening. Stretched the material as far as it would go (don't go to crazy pulling!). And had a friend install that rubber-maid-like trim piece to the headliner. Let me tell you there is a small gap, but it looks a lot better then my old torn one. My freind knows that I'm a fanatic about how my car looks and he thought I would rip it down and get another one. To tell you the truth I think it looks fine. Here's my question?
How often do you look up at the headliner in the car?
In regards to your question about replacing the material on the sun roof it self.
Don't you have to remove the sun roof first and thus you may have goofed again.
      Just my two cents!

the proper way to replace the liner on the subroof panel is to remove teh entire sunroof cover and pull the panel out from the top.

you can also drop teh pan to get at it, but this is far more trouble than its worth. the sunroof cover omes off with the removal of like 6 obvious screws, so there is no reason to go that route.

anyway, the short of it is that it doesn't matter if you do the headliner before or after the sunroof panel... you approach each from a different direction.
