Help, Evaporator Removal 200

Hello all,

I am in the process of doing major work on the A/C system on my ’86 245.
One of the many components I need to replace is the evaporator. Can someone explain the procedure for removing the evaporator from this car?
Right now I have the a/c lines going to the evaporator and the expansion valve disconnected.
I noticed the right side section of the white plastic box where the evaporator seats is glued to rest of the housing, there are also four metal clips clamping the two sections together.
So, I wonder, if the evaporator can be removed by sliding it out from the side.
Please help, its very hot (90F+) in FL.

Javier.

You're on the right track. The white plastic cover on the right side of the housing has to come off. It's not glued on. It has a sticky butyl tape to seal it to the housing, and the clips are for insurance. Carefully pry off the cover. Remove the floor/defrost ductwork on the right side, and slide the evaporator out. They are usually pretty tight due to dirt/leaves etc building up inside over the years, but with a bit of effort, it should slid right out. Pick up some A/C insulating tape and seal it up after reinstalling the evap.
