I have a non-turbo 940 (1993) and I am trying to find the eggcrate style grille off the turbo version that would fit this vehicle. I was told that the 940 turbo grill would not fit due to the extra set of fog lights but that the 740 turbo grille would.
Does anyone know if this will work?

Either the front headlight trim or the grille changed in 1991 or 1992. It's hard to keep abreast of all of the front end changes, but if you're buying a new one, buy one for a 1992 740T and it will fit. 740T, no foglamps. They were optional, I believe. The array of front fascia and foglamps is somewhat staggering unless you look directly in the book at what goes with what, and in what year. I've played grilles many times trying to find one that fits a particular application with little luck. But when you know what you're looking for, much easier.

There were two different front-ends on the 940. One with foglights and one without.

The cars w/o foglights have the same front end as the '90?-'92 740s. Exact same...all pieces will interchange between the two models.

The cars w/ foglights have the same front end as the '88-'90 760s and '92-'94 960s. All parts will also interchange between these models.

So...if you have a 940 w/o foglights, the eggcrate grille from a '90-'92 740 Turbo will fit. If you have a 940 w/ foglights, then the eggcrate grille off a 940T w/ foglights will fit.

They're NOT the exact same parts. You could theoretically change around the 1992 front end parts for the 1990 front end parts, but they're clearly different. The front end of the 1990 (and maybe 1991 as well--can't remember offhand) has a grille that fits between the headlight trim pieces, while the later 740/940 has a grille that overlaps these pieces instead, giving the grille a little more area on the front of the car. The remainder, meaning the bumper and associated pieces, IS the exact same piece.

Why not? The 740 and 940 share the same front end(s) until 1995 when the 960 had different sheet metal altogether.

Lance's description is pretty good. The grille/front plastic trim changed for either 1991 or 1992 (both 740 and 940, without foglights). The grille went from fitting into the front plastic trim, to overlapping it. I've tried to switch grilles around but haven't been successful doing so.. although it might be a result of the wide array of grilles available for the 700/900 series throughout the later production years.

Why not? The '89-'90 760 and the '90-'92 740 had the same type of front end as the 900 series. The late 760 had the foglights next to the headlights just like the 940 w/fogs, and the late 740 had the single headlights just like the 940 w/o fogs.

I didn't think there was a difference between the foglight and non-foglight grilles, but if there is, there are eggcrate styles to fit both.

Now the '84-'89 700 series grille is completely different from the late 740/760 and the entire 900 series.

Absolutely NOT true. Here are the front ends that are the same:

1) '85-'89 740, '83-'87 760
2) '90-'92 740, '91-'95 940 w/o foglights
3) '88-'90 760, '91-'95 940 w/ foglights, '92-'94 960

I have a '93 940 turbo with the eggcrate grill. yes, i have the fog lights next to the grill. if you have the fog lights next to the grill the grills are interchangable between the turbo and non-turbo. i've had both.

Really you want to get the grill that came with or without foglights. Does your non-turbo have fogs?
