68 140 suspension questions 140-160

My 68 140 needs new ball joints. The upper ones seem to
be NLA. Is it possible to swap from the 68 style to the
later style which are still available by swapping the A
arms from a newer 140?

68 140 suspension questions 140-160

I have not experienced this problem with the baall joints on our 67 144 or our 68 142. I may have just had some old inventory. The major problem is with the steering rod replacement situation on the early 140 series cars. I have heard of people having to change the entire steering assembly to the late model 140 parts because of one worn out steering rod.

I'm not sure why they didn't tell you but the earlier and later
upper balljoints are interchangeable and there are no "early" and
"late" upper A-frames. They are all the same according to my
factory microfiches. In fact even left and right are the same
for the 140, but different for the 164. (Wonder why.... it is the
lower one that really takes the stress. The upper only provides lateral
alignment.)

Hope this helps. Don't let 'em get you down!
