Tranny Oil Fill Tube Nut Seized

Great way to spend the early morning. My kid's 940 had a small leak at the tranny gasket, so I decided to replace it. And was utterly stymied by the seized tranny fill tube nut at the side of the pan. I recall having a bitch of a time on my no-rust California car trying to get this nut off, and sure enough, add a little corrosion and it becomes impossible. PBlaster, heat, knocking it with a punch, major wrench with helper tube: nothing will budge this sucker. I've decided to tighten the pan bolts and await the time when I can remove the entire assembly as a unit (pan and fill tube), which conveniently means pulling the starter bolts as well, before I replace the gasket. Why, oh why, did they assemble this with no antiseize, all the time recommending that you drop the pan every two years and clean it out?

What works? Acetylene torch?

May want to try to remove the fill tube from the block and drop it with the pan. You may need a lot of ground clearance. Last time I did, I got to the tube loosen just it a bit.

Try with the Pblaster and tap for an hour. That will work.

I have had to pull the transmission pan and dipstick as an assembly before. I don't have a tubing nut wrench that size, but I will buy or make one if I have the problem again. I have cut a slot in a box end wrench before when I did not have the proper tubing wrench.

Sux to be us sometimes. What I do know about it is that if you break it, you will be out a few semolians, and in chapter two of the World of Misery.

RingLee:
I hate to seem like I know, cuz I have a lot of respect for your advice on this board...but here goes my 2 centavos worth. I would soak the sucker for several hours with PBlaster, lift the car up on a lift, then put on the large wrench, and TIGHTEN it a little,LOOSEN it a little...Rapping it with a hammer to aid the penetration should help....
Take care,

Raidmeister: I did all you suggested, still seized solid. Maybe if I remove the pan assembly and soak the whole thing in about twenty gallons of PBlaster from now until Christmas it would come off.

I even, get this, drilled a small hole into the threads at the side of the nut and shot PBlaster up in there. Nope: didn't work.

I'll probably end up removing the whole assembly and cutting out the nut with a Dremel. This will cost one nut and one fill tube plus more hours of labor. Thanks, unnamed Aisin Warner engineer, for your shitty choice of materials. Typical Asian problem: corrodes like hell.

I found that once the transmission oil pan/fill tube assembly was removed that turning the tube while turning the wrench broke the assemble loose. The problem was the nut was seized on the tube, and they would only turn together.
