A/C Vacumning-After Retrofit 700

I'm going to vacumn my a/c after doing retrofit.

It works "okay", but at idle, it's not that cool, and generally speaking I think I can improve performance.

When I first did this the tech trying to draw it down could not because of loose fitting I found later. That and the fact that I want to add a VOV, and there is a very small leak near the muffler fitting, makes me want to draw down and refill.

My question is, I can rent a vacumn pump for $25./day, but what fitting do I need? And how do I do this. Connect the pump and start the a/c?, do I jump the compressor to keep it running? How long is best?

I have a cheap vacumn gauge that came from autozone, for low side, can I just use this to see if it holds vacumn after draw down?

anyway, you can see I have a few questions. any help appreciated.

In order to vacuum mine, I borrowed a hose/gauge set-up from a shop. The hose connected to the low side. I did not turn on the engine or ac. I just pumped out the air for 20-30 minutes, and then refilled the 134 through the same port.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have any a/c friends!!!

I just returned from a rental place, the pump would work okay, but in order to use it, I would need a gauge set ($100 @ autozone). It looks like I'm not going to win this one. Might have to go the shop route unless anyone has any ideas or good places to get necessary equip (rent, or borrow)

thanks,

J/C i have done two conversions to diff way, i recently did the volvo conversion though which they give you all new stuff other the pipeing and the compressor they give you the evap can, with guess what a low side now added making life a hell of a lot easier, should check into getting that, i did find a trick though when filling it, if you turn one full can upside down and fill liquid within the system it will stay somewhat cold at idle, now i live in So Cal so when it's 95 out here it keep me from sweating to the least, though it will never replace freon i can live with it. good luck
