I bought this 16v 4 cyl car about a two weeks ago it was not run for over a year before I bought it. I barely managed to get his car home after buying it where it died in the drive and. I just got this car out of the shop for the would not start problem. Now it starts alright and runs fine for about 20 minutes then starts to miss and then dies. if I turn the ignition on and off a few times to cycle the main fuel pump, it will run again for a couple of minutes. If I leave the car idle it seems to run for as long as I will let it. I've replaced the main fuel filter, made sure I could hear the prepump run, took out the prepump assembly to make sure the inlet screen was not clogged, I've run the car with the FPR outlet going into a gas can to make sure that it was not stuck closed and pumped 5 galons of gas out of it with no problem at idle. I don't have a fuel pressure gage but when the car is running during the 10 minutes it will handle WOT acceleration fine, it just starts to miss driving at about 35-40 mph and then stalls out completely it acts like fuel starvation. I'm thinking O2 sensor or maybe aan injector clogged but then again it drives fine for a little while...any ideas?

First of all thanks to all for their inputs. I think I've stumbled
upon the problem. Let me share with you what I found.

I tested the radio noise supression relay when the trouble first
began and made sure that I had 12v to the hot side of the injectors,
and the car started, so I thought that it was fine. But when the
car quit on me yesterday, I took another look at it and this time
I could feel that the harness wires going to the relay socket were
not very tight. Loosing this input to the injectors would certainly
make the car act like it is starving for gas (because it is of course
but not because of a fuel delivery system problem to the injectors).

I firmly pushed the wires back up into the socket base and the car
started right up. I managed to test drive it for an hour without
further incident (which is longer than this car has ever run since the trouble began.

I hope this fixes it for me and I suggest that folks having what
seems to be fuel starvation problems check here early on in their diagnosis.

Pull your Fuel Pump relay and resolider it.

Next time it dies, check your spark. This sounds like a bad coil. How long do you have to wait before it will run again?

as soon as I can cycle the main fuel pump a few times , it will start, may not run long , but it will start and soon act like no fuel

Is the flap that controls warm air going to from the block via the preheater tube to the air cleaner cycling? According to bricksters far more knowledgeble than me (not saying much!!!;p) that is a common problem that could lead to the early demise of the AMM causing several dead presidents to take a side road from their intended journey.

Google search of FAQ's has remedy.

oh yeah, I forgot to mention that it has new cap and rotor, the plugs and wires seem to be fine.

I had the same problem that I =hope= I fixed today. 89 740T would just die out on the road, but start back uo OK, getting to the point it was taking longer to restart. Then it began not starting at all in the driveway sometimes, but other times it would just start right up.

Today, while turning the ignition I moved the fuel pump relay around and it started right up. I hope this is my problem. Good luck.
