Relay identification 200 1985

Anyone know what the white relay next to the fuse holder on my 1985 240GL is for?? It has printed on the outside VOLVO 1364 675.12V. Made in France. I'm having problems keeping her going. After start she wants to die when I give her gas, and around the air filter a deep moaning sound when I push the pedal down and it starts to fade out. Help appreciated. Thanks.

Check the fuel pump relay 200 1985

I suspect the fuel pump relay. On our 86 240, it was bolted to the firewall...and repeatedly failed due to corrosion. Your symptoms would be consistent with this problem...and I've seen this in BMW, Audi and recently a FWD Volvo.

Can you finda Volvo part number on there? I believe all part numbers will
be at least seven digits.

The overdrive relay I've got sitting here has this printed on it:

12V
(HELLA)
5DA
004 054-05
Schrittschalt-
Steuergerdt
Volvo
3523805
Made In Germany

The part number is: 3523805.

P.S. O'Connell Volvo lists part number 1324675 as being a "Heater Timer
Relay".

P.P.S. Your fuel pump relay should be White in color, but should have the
part number 3523608 on it.

Hugh -

I looked in my Volvo Service Manual Wiring Diagrams for the 1985 240, and could not figure out what relay you are asking about. It would help to know what wires are connected to what terminals.

Key off. Pull the relay from its base. Look at the bottom of the relay and you should see terminal numbers, like 85, 87, 86, 86a, 15,30, etc. Then look on the base and figure out what color wire goes on which terminal.

There are quite a few relays in the location as seen in the WDM page on relays. With the additional info I might be able to determine which it is.

The relay should have not connection to your running problem. Quick things to check are the PCV system (flame trap et al) and the air filter box. New air filter and the pre-heat air tube closed off.

Good Luck,

Bob
