Changing out Transmissions 84 GLT to 87DL 200

Does anyone out there know the feasibility of putting an 84 240 GLT transmission from a Station wagon into an 87 240 DL sedan? Cannibalizing the GLT which was wreaked...both are 5 speeds (however the GLT has the overdrive on a button on the gearshift knob and the DL has the regular 5 on the floor shift)...thanx in advance, nezbah

Nezbah,
I have a true 5 sp in a 245 and Iam able to get 31.5 mpg (65+ mph) as opposed to 27 (tops) from my 4 sp with electric push button OD. Also have no extra worries of the solanoid quitting on me and all the other electrical gremlins that come with the push button OD. You might want to compare what your 5 gets you against your 4+OD. Just some info.

So you want to put a M-46(4 sp+OD) in and take the M-47(5sp) out.You will need the O.D.stuff from the GLT,plus the shifter. The drive shaft on the DL may be longer because there isn't an OD behind the trans. You'll want that too. This would be an ideal time to change the rear main seal.

Also do not forget the M47 has an electronic speedo, so you will need to swap rear diffs, speedos and any associated wiring. Or you could just use a portable GPS
