Anyone try to swap 2 front seats to even upholstry wear? 200 1989

Brickers,

I have just about worn the driver's side front seat cloth material on my 1989 240 DL sedan out. Although it still looks fine, it is definely getting thin, especaially on the seat back near the driver's side door. My passenger side seat, however, has gotten little use and is good to go. Has anyone out there tried to swap the 2 front seats to even the wear?

There may be issues with the Lumbar knob and the seat angle adjustment knob, but I have not done my homework there yet.

Pleae advise. Thank you.

Regards,

2oldvolvos

I did a R&R on our 89 240 wagon last year. I got the doner seat from another car,our seat was ok but the back was bent, (a common problem) I took the covering off the seats mixed the good parts together and cut a new hole for the luber suport knob. To take the covering off you need a pair of side cutter type pliers, some time and a bench or table to work on. It really wasn't that hard to do just took a little bit of time, but was well worth it.

Yes, I've done it one a 245 and a 242 with mixed results: the obvious positive being even-wear; the negatives are vary. If you want to retain the height and tilt adjustment controls levers for the drivers seat, you must switch the whole track assembly, which isn't that big a deal--just tedious. The other issues are accesability to seat back and lumbar knobs, the latter being no issue, but the seat back adjustment interferes w/the handbrake console. In my case, the drivers seat was completely trashed from the spings to the upholstery, so it was well worth the hassle.

Regards, Duncan
