Fluid Loss When Changing Tranny Output Bushing?

I am going to change the tranny output bushing in my kid's 940 this weekend. When I pull the output casting, how much fluid runs out? A quart? Eight quarts? Never done this before, so I need to know how big a tub to place beneath.

Depends on which end you jack up. On a hoist with the crossmember out, about 1/2 quart. With front end jacked up, I would expect a bit more, but not much. Your standard oil change pan will be more than enough to catch it.

I removed the output unit to have a tranny shop press on the new bushing. After draining the trany, I did not get any fluid come out. Do clean the outside first with a degreaser if you are removing the output unit.

Did you just drain the pan only? I can't see how the fluid in the pan would come out the back end: it is contained within the pan itself.

(First of all, thanks for your input on my LH 2.4 problem.)

Here's something that might save you some work. But I guess it will cost you $40. Maybe the same thing is available in your locale for less $'s.

I also notice there is a pdf document that might have some good info.

Nope: they stopped carrying the output bushing remover because of "poor quality control". No longer available.

...."poor quality control"......

Hmmmm. I wonder if that means some poor guy had to tear his trans apart to remove the broken piece of tool.

Well, good luck. Hopefully the 940 has a drain plug like my 740. Some cars (like my Dakota pickup) don't have drains, so you just drop the pan and take an ATF bath.
