My 244 has been sitting up idle for a LONG time( 1 year) with 1\2 tank of gas...what do you brickheads recommend to add to the tank to get the water mixed in so it can burn clean?

The best way to be sure is as Paul recommended. If you don't want to do that, I suggest a can of dry gas (isopropyl alcohol) and about 5 ounces of AMSOIL PI.
Hopefully, the fuel won't have left any nasty deposits in the injection system.

Couple of cans of drygas and fill it with premium. Left my Honda on the pier in Florida for 2 week operations cruise (USN) with 1/4 - 1/2 tank. Came back 4 months later. No problem.
