fuel pump problems 700

hi, i have a 740 gle 86'.I just bought a brand new fuel pump and i just finished installing it.The car has been on for 5 minutes,its still running but when i touch the pump its burning hot.Is this normal?And it started whizzing like the old pump.And the car started shaking and stalling.What can be potential problems.Im really worried,I dont wanna take it to a garage cuz i know theyre gonna want to change everything and try to rip me off

I am still a novice on Volvos, but if it is a two-pump system (an in-tank pump also), it sounds like only one pump is working and the problem is in the tank.

I would reccomend reading fuel pump problems and diagnoses from the 700/900 FAQ. Does the car have problems accelerating after the engine reaches a certain number of RPMs under load?
