did it twice. I just switched the foam, not the mechanisms.

plastic zip ties all around to secure cover.

Beware of semi-rotten seat covers, remove them carefully.

Yes, I'm sitting on one right now. Well, not right now, but mostof the time when I'm not sitting here! My 86 has an 87 passenger seat under it. My 86 came with a broken upper seat frame and split foam. I found a mint passenger seat (even working heaters) and disassembled it completely.
You need to put on your driver's seat track and lift mechanism.
You need to flip flop the controls to the opposite side, unless you like having the big knob on the wrong side. The lumbar support reverses easily. Good time to replace it, or the wire spring frame if either are broken. Both are available thru IPD, VOlvo, other sources.
Re-fastening the middle seam in the upholstery down into the foam is a bit of a chore, but nylon wire ties make life easier here. Watch sharp edges all around the frame. Getting the pressed on lock washer out of the hub of the big knob is something of a chore but a tiny screwdriver will help.
You'll be so much happier!

Yep, twice. Once in an '82, once in an '86.
