Who else makes a service manual besides Haynes? 700

I'm looking for a service manual for my 1988 740 turbo. I tried ordering a Haynes one yesterday, but the guy said its discontinued and no longer available. I need one so I know how to do all these things described in the FAQ, its frustrating when people say check this, check that when its not something obvious like spark plugs or air filter. THanks.

    I found a haynes manual 700

Canadian Tire told me they don't make them anymore, but I found it at Lordco Auto Parts for $20. I guess its okay, but alot better than having nothing and guessing at where some parts are :D

A used Haynes from Ebay may be a better deal than one of the newer ones, even if you pay a little more. Recently Haynes (at least here in the US) switched the paper they're printed on to pulp, which has a tendency to dissolve in typical repair situations. The old ones were printed on some sort of heavy duty paper that could withstand soaking, wiping off grease, etc. Plus the new ones are missing Terry Davy's really cool cutaway drawings on the cover :(

On the other hand, the new ones make better emergency toilet paper.

I just bought a Haynes manual for my '89 745 in the spring by ordering from the British Haynes site. Sure, you have to decipher such things as propellershaft and bonnet, but as far as things being in the same place (RHD vs. LHD) it looks like most of the components aside from the dash & steering gear are in the same places. It's a little vague, but in conjunction with this board and the FAQ you can usually do pretty well.

Hello there. In my opinion the Chiltons manual are worthless. they try to cover every thing from 1970 to 1990. That all the models, 1800, 140, 160, 240, 740, and 940. I just got a 240 haynes manual last night on e-bay for 14.46. And i was just at Haynes website and they still make it. try calling one of the folowing number monday. TN 1-800-242-2637 or CA 1-800-4-HAYNES (442-9637)
Hope you can get one still.

Thanks, I did some calling around and found a haynes for $24 Canadian. Going to pick it up tonight or tomorrow. I don't need anything too in depth, just need to know the basics, and know where certain parts are so I can check them. THanks all!

Chiltons are the best manuals for the money i have found, plus if you can get an older one it will show more pictures and have better descps then the new ones. I actually have 2 one from like 1987 and one from 1998 and the 87 manual is sooooo much better.

I have a Haynes for my 240, but most people recommend the Bentley or better yet the green Volvo factory manuals (expensive). Both should be available on the Web - E-bay or the Volvo site in the case of the factory manuals.

Chilton also makes a service manual. They can be obtained on ebay for older models.
