Hi, I have a 90 780 turbo. I finally got my head back from the shop (2 weeks)and I finished putting the engine all back together. I'm pretty sure I did everything right, but the car won't start. It cranks, but nothing realy happens. I bought the car from an auction not running, So I don't know any of the history. I also didn't get the car running before tearing the head off. The head was warped badly, but it's now basicly new.

I finished it late (8:00) so I didn't mess with it much before calling it quits. I did make sure I didn't install the dist. backwards, and I replaced the plugs. looking at the dist. from the passenger side, the 1st wire goes to cyl. #1, 2-2,3-4,4-3 - right? I got the timing belt all lined up properly too. I don't know the history of the car, (i have never seen it run) so It could be anything. Plus I'm new to volvo's - where to start?

ok, 4-3-1-2 doesn't work eather. Maybe I did put the dist in backwords; 1-2-4-3 is what it would be backwords right? I didn't draw I diagram before hand, so I figured out what went to where by looking at where the rotor pointed at TDC. (I also found a picture of someones engine which confermed my 1243) I'll test to see if its getting spark here in a few mins.

The spark plugs are sparking, are the injectors injecting? how do I find out? Should I get a compresion checker to confirm everything is well inside the engine?

I forgot to mention I found that the car was maintained at a volvo dealership, the last service being at 70,000 miles - it now has 77,000 miles.
