ABS sensors 200 1992

My ABS light has been coming on intermittently recently, and I want to check/clean the sensors, but I was wondering if I have to remove the rotors to do this. Can't I just unscrew and remove them from behind the wheel? I don't want to screw anything up. I've read here on the board that the connectors get old and brittle.

Thanks,
Seth

It is a more thorough job to remove the rotors and clean everything. Everything, meaning the toothed wheel and sensor. The wheel gets full of junk and the sensor gets debris on it. Sooner or later it ends up giving you oversensitive ABS or the ABS light. You can remove them from the back (in fact it would be a good idea to remove them and lightly lube the O-rings) but it's better when you remove them for you to assist them out from the rotor side as well. They're usually pretty tight.

Yes, you can remove the sensors without pulling the hub, BUT, you won't be able to clear the reluctor (the toothed wheel inside of the rotor) without removing the hub. Might be a good time to have the hubs checked for warpage and get them turned if necessary.
