When adding a can of BG44 to the gas tank i think i read somewhere that it is advisable to change the oil as soon as possible afterwards. Is this the case or can i safely wait until my next scheduled oil change even though that maybe two
or three thousand miles away?

I just went though this w/ my 760. The distributor stopped by my mechanics place and dropped some off and helped dispel some myths about it's use:

YES you must burn the tank in < 48 hours.

NO you do NOT need to change the oil immediately afterwards

It will NOT burn out your cat if used in recommended concentration.

Ask BG and see what they say.
The stuff is mixed with the gas. Lets see, it is about an 8 (maybe 12) oz can.
Mixes with maybe 15 gallons of gas, so ratio is something between 160-240 to 1 in the fuel. The fuel burns, and the exhaust goes out the tail pipe.
I suspect that (in a mechanically sound engine) you would be hard pressed to find any significant cleaner residue in the engine oil.
Now, pouring a can of 44K directly into the oil would be a different story.

IIRC from my MBCA days (daze?), BG44 and Chevron's Techron work the same way. They clean injectors by dissolving any crud as they go past the injector. They are basically dispersants, or thinning agents, and their chemical properties allow them to pass the rings into the oil. This in turn thins the oil and lowers the viscosity.

Hence the recommendation to change the oil shortly after running the tankful through the engine. I think Techron even says that on the bottle.

    HTH,

Change the oil as soon as possible. I read in FAQ that this stuff is nasty and can break down the oil. If you go a week and 500 miles it will not be a problem.
I wouldn't leave the oil unchanged for 3 months after using it. Like I stated in an earlier post I like to drop a can in when I am taking a long trip 2 -3 tanks of gas. It is not the kind of product you want to leave in your tank for a week. It would be best if your going somewhere that you would use a tank of gas one way and burn a second tank coming back. Then have the oil changed with in a day or two of getting back.
