Do the motor mounts first, then the tranny mount. 200

The motor mounts are allowed to move a little rearward, thus accelerating their failure, because the tranny mount has become weak. After all, it's back there with ATF, motor oil, road stuff, water, grit and who knows what-all.

So, get the new motor mounts in, and then replace the tranny mount. Both are greasy jobs, have plenty vinyl gloves, GoJo, paper towels, etc. Protect the driveway surface with old newspapers so the lumps of grease/dirt that fall off will be easily removed and won't stain the driveway surface. Or whatever surface you are working on.

Motor mounts go easier for me if I remove the entire unit, block piece, mount, and chassis piece, rather than trying to get just the mount out. Install assembled, but bolted very lightly. Once the block and chassis parts are lightly bolted, then tighten the mount bolts, block bolts, lower the engine and tighten chassis bolts.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

Just One, Order from FCP groton, I think its like $12. You also need a floor jack or bottle jack to support the trans while you are changing the mount. Use a block of wood to distribute the load on the transmission pan. Less than a 1 hour job.

      Hi Matt,

Thanks for the reply. I already ordered this from FCP, but I forgot if I needed two or just one. Where is this mount located? Have you done this personally? I will be doing the engine mounts also this coming weekend.

      Thanks

THe tranny mount is located directly below the tailshaft or output shaft, there is a cross member that bolts to the chassis that holds the mount. It is all quite straight forward once you get under the car. It will also make more sense when you have the new mount in you hand. I think I used the following process:

        1. support the trans
        2. unbolt mount from the transmission
        3. Unbolt the crossmember
        4. unbolt the old mount from the cross member

assembly is quite obviously the reverse.

good luck, its a fun and rewarding job, you will notice a difference with new motor and tranny mounts.
