My cat converter is rattling upon start-up and all connections are tight.Is there a way(besides replacement) to stop interior rattles??

Gut it or replace it. A Bosal cat from FCP Groton was $116 shipped for my '87 240.

Before you go and buy a new one, take the cat off (not that hard and the bolts can be saved for the flange) and shake it out. Mine actually had part of the O2 sensor in it and I wasted the 100 dollars on the new CAT. Oh well, just a thought.

If it is rattling internally you have to replace it. Bits of cat can clog up the other mufflers and worst case the interior can turn in to a ball of junk that completely blocks the flow... car not run at all...

Are you sure it's the converter itself and not the heat shield that goes around it? Usually the welding rusts away and it starts rattling. Mine did that for a while and it finally fell off, taking the rattle with it....

I sure hope that there wouldn't be any undercoating near the cat. That would be bad for sure!
