engine stalls when cold 200

I've a 1984 245DL with a B23 engine with automatic transmission. This engine was converted to a solex carburettor. Since the weather has started to be cooler, when i start the car i have to let it idle 3-4 minutes before i put it into gear otherwise it stalls. Once the car has warmed up the problem does not occur. Also during the summer it worked fine. I've only had the car since June so i have no experience with solex units in colder weather. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure which SOlex model you've got, perhaps you could post that, but I have worked on a few different ones... and like all carbs, the basics are important. Mainly :
1) is it clean, if not break out the carb cleaner
and
2) is the choke working? SOunds like not, so first do #1, and then see if the choke is closing when cold. There is probably a high- idle speed adjustment on the side of the choke to keep the throttle open a bit more when cold- is that adjusted right? A few turns in on the screw ought to be more than enough to keep it running.
More info or even a picture of it would be helpful since all US 240's were fuel-injected cars.

I addition to that... 200 1990

...check your spark. Make sure all your ignition wires and coil are in good condition. Also check the condition of your distributor (cap & rotor). It's quite easy to overlook these simple things, as they seem to cause a lot of problem with cold start and stalling.
