Ok timing belts removed..now what? 700

Thanks for all your help. I now have the timing belt removed and what to do some updating to my engine...i.e new tensioner and seals. I see a little splatter from maybe the oil pump so I am going to change all the seals. What is the best way to remove the three seals (crank, cam, and intermediate shaft) once I get the sprockets off? I guess I will have to get a strap wrench to hold the intermediate and cam sprockets in place. Do you use dental pic to pull the seals out and what do I tap them in with....thanks...Leo

The 700/900FAQ has procedures for removing the various sprockets. What I do is remove the cast aluminum bracket from the rear of the oil pan to the bell housing. I got a length of steel bar 1/8 X 1-1/4 in. less than 6 in. long. Set the crank to TDC. Measure from an exposed torque converter bolt to one of the bell housing bolt holes on the bottom. I drilled two holes in the bar at that spacing and slightly bent the bar to a slight S shape. Removed the bolt from the flywheel and put the short end of the bar under it. Used one of the lower bell housing bolts to attach the other end of the bar to the bell housing. This will lock the crankshaft very securely. I do this before removing the belt and I can break loose the bolts securing the cam and intermediate sprockets with just the belt holding them stationary. When re-assembling, after the belt is on and everything is lined up I tension the belt before torquing the sprocket bolts. Since you already have the belt off you may be able to put a large screwdriver through one of the holes in the sprockets to hold them while you break the bolts loose.
Currently Harbor Freight Tools has a Camshaft Pulley Tool for $7.99. Item #45315-2VGA. I bought one a few days ago but have not tried it yet. It should hold the cam and intermediate sprockets when tightening and loosening the bolts.

Good luck,
Bruce

Dental pick, tiny screwdriver, pointed awl - anything you can poke into the old seal as long as you don't gouge the shaft or casing surfaces.

A correctly sized PVC pipe fitting makes a good, inexpensive tool to drive the new ones in. Be careful with the crank seal (both removing AND installing) as there is nothing to stop it from going in too far. Finishing it off flush with the casing, or just a TINY smidge inside, is generally good.
