87 760 turbo- climate control question 700 1987

so the heater/ac blower quit working last week on my 760 turbo wagon. I replaced the blower motor and now the fan works fine. the problem is that now it only vents the air out at the floor on 'high'. you can turn it to the 'off' position and the fan will stop but hot air still flows slowly from the floor vents. in all other positions the fan just comes on high and blows air out on the floor.

any ideas? is this climate control something I can fix myself or is it a huge pain? (I'm not comfortable tearing down an engine or other major projects. but I am reasonably machanicly inclined)

IF the '87 ECC is similar to the '89 760 Turbo model, there will be a vacuum solenoid manifold under the right side center console kick panel. I had the same problem when I bought my car, and this was the culprit. I couldn't isolate the problem until I had the kick panels out, engine running, ECC set to auto, and actually pushed on the wiring on the multipin connector going to this piece. Suddenly the ecc came to life!

I removed the manifold and resoldered all of the pin connections on the connectors and the plug. Haven't had a problem since.

HTH, again, mine was an '89 model year.
