What's with all the cam letters? I keep reading about K cams and VX cams, what does it all mean. After fixing all the "fun" stuff I'd like to play with this kinda stuff and would like to be edumacated early on.

but what does that all mean? All the lift/duration stuff I forgot a while ago. IF I wnat to make my 87 245dl w/ 5 spd quicker and still comfortable and economical to drive at 85 or 90 mph which is the right cam for the job?

Ken,

Lift: how much the cam pushes open the intake and exhaust valves
Duration: for how long it keeps those valves open
Overlap: how long intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time

Different cams ( A, VX, M, B, K...) do all those things differently.

At 85-90 MPH, a K would be in the middle of it's powerband and able to give you very good acceleration to speeds beyond. If you are interested, I have a spare K in very good condition for sale. Thanks!

I am getting a V15 /Phase 1 cam by thanksgiving.. in the middle of a big purchase. I will post spec of how the thing is in my 1991 245se w/ auto tranny, and possibly in my 1980 244 with 4 speed. the phase one is slightly different than the VX3 or VX cam since you get better low end and some better or equal high end than the VX cams.

Now you need the performance sequel to the Gothenburg Bible by Paul Grimshaw for that advice.
