Bushings 900 1995

Our 95 940T with 75K miles just had new front strut rod bushings installed. How many other bushings are in the suspension? Are there certain ones that last much longer than others, or will they all need replacement in the near future? What is a reasonable price to replace them all?

Ayeroll is correct on the front bushings. As far as the rears are concerned, they can deteriorate if you have had any oil leaks that ended up bathing them. The main ones to be aware of are on the 2 arms attaching the center of the rear axle to the sub-assy. There is a big honkin' bushing on the axle end that can be replaced with the judicious use of lube and a vise (one of these was bad on my '94 and I successfully replaced it) but you can forget about replacing the small one on the other end without special press tools. Anyway, it wouldn't be likely to break down. While you are under there, check the tranny mount bushing too, they seem to go after 100-150k mi. and can masquerade as suspension/rotor shudder.

You've just done the main ones. There are also small bushings to the sway bar end links- they're little guys about an inch in diameter, and not expensive. Shouldn't cost more than 1 hr labor if you pay to put them in.

There are some bushings in the rear suspension but they usually aren't much of a problem- I've actually never had to replace any rear axle bushings in a 940.

I'd say under $100 at any shop to do the front ones. If the rubber is showing splits, it would be good to replace them, but not an emergency. The strut rod bushings are a lot more important to the happiness of car and driver.
