Hey Guys,
Another successful brickboard repair done by me on the old 85 244DL. I wrote a few days ago about failing emission testing in the state of Virginia. You guys called it right again. It was the temperature sensor on the back of the engine or about the third cylinder. Then I noticed the intake gasket was wet with gas or oil or both.. As I looked at replacing the temperature sensor I thought I might as well replace them both, clean the flame trap too while I am under that intake. Well what about an oxygen sensor too. Yea, what about the fuel pump relay. I pulled mine out to see a date of 3/5/85. I was afraid to try to solder it. At that age just go buy another one to avoid an on road break down….use the old one for a spare.
I found this Web Site about a year and a half ago while chatting with a fellow Volvo owner whom I meet in a Seven Eleven parking in Roanoke Va. . Started looking at what you guys were talking about on this board about these cars, better yet repairing these beauties.. Started looking at what had happen to my car over years and what the dealer would charge for things like cleaning a throttle body. After reading the board I thought, is that all it is to clean a throttle body? That was nine months ago when I got the nerve to work on it myself. I must say I am happy when she runs well. Volvo kept her running good and made a lot of money from me as well. I don’t think I can change the brakes at this early stage of the game on her, but in about six months when it is time I think I will be ready.
I read this board at least twice a day. I am always learning something about my Volvos from you guys and how to repair them. I want to say thanks for all the tips, and how to do it without personal injury advise you give. I will not tell you the quote I got over the phone from the dealer after I told them the parts that failed emission. Their price was way off the mark! She passed! Since I read this board a lot; I am going to send the web master a donation to keep this valuable board on line. Thank you all.
