Will have an oppourunity to get an excellent replacement harness at the half off sale at junkyard tomorrow. $15!!!!!!!! Found a great one on an '87 740, but I have an '86. They look Identical except that the '87 has a blue solenoid wire instead of a red one. Does anyone know if it is the same???? Sure is a nice one and I am going to buy it anyway, for a possible trade if it won't work. T

Been there done exactly that!!! It's gonna work except for the following. a) Need to modify connector to temperature gauge.1) 86 one connector,87 two connectors 2)you will have an extra wire connector by the ignition coil side. You don't need this for an '86. 3) very important!!! CHECK the color code sequence of both the TPS and Idle motor connectors from the '86 vs. the '87.In my case the wiring sequence on the '87 was different and it drovr me nuts for two months (high idle) until my volvo guru discovered and corrected it.Email Dave Barton and ask for my report on the matter..Good luck and have fun!!

Buy it! If it's in as good of shape you make it out to be, you can always re-sell it on e.Bay for a significant profit.

Also, you may want to check with Dave Barton (dbarton@linkline.com). He is an expert on the wiring harnesses and would probably tell you the differences right away. I had to replace the harness on my '85 740 and bought a used one from him that was in excellent shape and came with documentation that made installing it a breeze.

I took one off and 88 and threw it into my 86, so there probly interchangeable, the only diff i noticed was the temp connector for the gauge on the dash, on the engine the harness has a 2 pin connector while on the 86 its a 1 pin so i just cut it and tied the live wire to the sensor.
