Where is this Coolant leaking from?

I posted a message last week about this, but did not get a response.

The car seems to be leaking coolant from behind the timing belt at the top. It will trickle from somewhere back there out onto the block around the exhaust manifold and above the water pump. Replaced the water pump, so I pretty confident that that has nothing to do with it. Is there a seal or o-ring around or behind that timing belt that could go bad causing coolant to leak?

thanks,

Sam

The only thing that can leak are the head gasket or the seal at the top of the water pump. You wouldn't be the first Volvo owner to get that seal folded over a little bit- may have sealed at first but with a few heat cycles on it, the seal will start to leak. You can buy just the top seal and gasket separate from teh waterpump, but you will have to remove the WP again.
I'd be surprised if it's the headgasket unless you overheated the car pretty severely.
Good luck!

Luckily, the car has not been overheated, although the previous owner may have done some damage I am not aware of. I'll take another look at the seal.

The coolant is accumulating well above the upper seal on the water pump. I would seem to me that if it were that seal, then the coolant would be below the seal. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks for the input.

Sam
