1984 3 wire oxygen sensor????? 200 1984

I have a 1984 244 and i cant find the correct oxygen sensor. i ordred one from fcpgroton for an 84 and they sent me a single wire sensor and my car uses a 3 wire sensor. i was told to try an 85 sensor which has three wires but that did not work. neither one of these sensors would screw into my manifold. every autopart store i have spoken with has told me that they dont list a 3 wire sensor for an 84 244. i dont have an old part to go by because the previous owner removed the sensor and put a plug in the manifold. if someone out there has an 84 with a three wire sensor please let me know and include part number and maybe who sells this.

thanks,
j. santos

The very late 84's used a heated sensor in the NA engine. I've pulled them at the boneyard because they were located conveniently on the manifold instead of under the car on the downpipe, where you'll find them on the later years. The thread is the same for both heated and unheated oxygen sensors.

I suspect you have an exhaust manifold that is not original; the earlier EGR equipped cars have a port for the EGR pipe at roughly the same location that is slightly smaller than that of the oxygen sensor. Much to my dismay. Why else would someone plug it instead of leaving even a dead sensor in place!

'84s did not use the 3 wire sensor as it was not required by US law. All replacement harnesses for the '83-4 years were made with the provision for a 3 wire as were some of the later stock harnesses. If the sensor will not screw into the manifold either you have the wrong sensor or more likely the PO screwed the wrong plug into the mani and crossthreaded it. See if you can find the proper size tap and clean the threads, you may be able to clean them up.
