What's conventional wisdom, remove the manifold or do it without removing the manifold? 700 1990

Changing out a turbocharger on a 1990 740T with Mitsu turbo, automatic trans.

Chiltons says to remove the manifold/turbocharger assembly.

The volvo turbocharger manual says to remove the turbo (no mention of the exhaust manifold) directly. The volvo manual does reference a special tool, looks like a six inch long crowfoot wrench, to torque the nuts on the turbo/manifold bolts to 22 lb-ft, but other than that, it looks like it's much simpler to just remove the turbo vice the manifold/turbo assembly.

Anyone actually done one of these?
