IAC clarification? 200 1983

Does the air flow arrow on the IAC go from in front of the TB to the manifold, bypassing the TB? Thats the way its hooked up noe and its idling @ 1200. (NEW IAC)

Yes, the IAC is a by-pass around the TB. It is what allows air into the engine when the throttle plate is closed. It comes on when the throttle position switch tells the computer that the throttle plate is closed.

If the engine idles at 1200 with a new IAC, then some other thing(s) is not set correctly or there is an air leak somewhere. Check the bottom side of the air hose between the AMM and the TB.

I used to mess with the throttle link adjustment and the black thing with a knob on the bottom that can be turned. Boy, did I ever screw things up.

There is a specific procedure to setting the base idle, I think it can be found in Bentley or in the FAQ's. Remember in the FAQ's that even though they are titled 700/900, there is a lot of stuff in there for 200's, and the B230F engines are basically the same.

Good Luck,

Bob
