OD light 200 1991

The OD light on the kid's 244 no longer comes on when OD is disengaged. I checked the instrument panel when I was installing the tach, but the lamp is good. We can live without it; the tach and our ears tell us when OD is engaging, but I'd prefer nonetheless to have the light work. What's the next best place to look for a fault?

    Resolder the OD relay.

$0, 15 minutes, no risk, clean 'n easy work.

Resolder your fuel pump relay, too, even if it doesn't now need it. Hell, do every relay in the car.

The fpr WILL need it at 1 a.m. on a cold, snowy Sunday night a million miles from the nearest sign of civilization.

And put a retaining strap across the big plug in the back of the cylinder head. Same scenario as a failing fuel pump relay (BTDT on my kid's 245).

Don, thanks. Both 240's carry a spare FPR on board for "those special times". The 245 got the safety strap across the rear cam plug when the VX cam went in last year, just haven't around to it yet with the kid's 244. Just saw steel cord emerging thru rubber on one of his front tires this morning, so am weighing tire options at the moment!

Manual or automatic? I'd check wires to the speedo cluster, also that the bulb holder's contacts make a good electrical connection when the bulb is installed into the speedo cluster. Did you check the bulb with an ohmmeter?

Neglected to specify this one's the automatic. (The 'upshift' light in the 245 with M47 blesedly burnt out and will NOT be replaced!)

It was late when I posted the message and I wasn't as clear as I should have been. The OD light stopped working a week or so before I installed the tach. While I had the cluster out, I checked all instrument bulbs and their holders. I swapped a spare, known good bulb & holder into the OD light spot, and made sure the board contacts were clean. When the cluster was reinstalled, all lamps and functions were checked and proved to be fine -just the OD light wasn't working.

Thus I doubt that the problem (admittedly a minor one) is at the light end. The OD engages and disengages just fine, so the relay is OK. I'm just wondering if there is another obvious place to look.
