Hey,
I am installing a small tach and i was wondering if anyone had the wiring diagram for the light dimmer. If you do what color wire do I need to tap into to hook up to the light on the small tach so it dim w/ the rest of the instruments.
P.S. What fuse should I connect the power wire on the tach to, one that is on in the II position.

I don't have the wiring diagram on hand, but on my '83 I believe all of the dash lights on the dimmer circuit are fed 12v with a solid brown wire.
My practice has been to tap into it wherever I needed to install something on the dimmer circuit - like gauge or stereo lighting. Others may recommend going back to the source (dimmer rheostat) but I figure these instrument lights are pretty tiny loads.

I did a light dimmer conversion (or two actually) on my 1980' 242DL.
The way I had to do, was to take the red wire to the 12v cable which goes to the light bulb in the roof.
The black cable (negative ground) should go to chassis. It should not go to to the negative cable. You have to wire it to the chassis.

I blew my first dimmer, cause I tried to connect it "over" the bulb.
The next time, I asked the dealer how I should connect it.
They then told me as I tell you; black to chassis, red to 12v+.

Then I connected it, and everything worked like a charm.. Untill..
I thought up a smart idea; what about connecting it to the fusebox?
So I did.. and p00f again.. I didnt think about the fact that the fusebox has alot more juice than the 40w max spec of the dimmer :p

I now have destroyed to dimmers :p But I will buy one more! Then I will have dimmer!

I will try to draw the picture of the instruction manual.

I didnt think about the dimmer..
To tap into the dimmer, check what wire goes out of the dimmer.
I dont know if it's smart to put more power on it.. maybe the dimmer will burn.
