Looking to get a used turbo for the 82 turbowagon. Will the 740 b23ft exhaust manifold and turbo bolt up to a b21ft head without modifications to my exhaust system etc?

Yes. Sorta. Maybe. Kinda. The B230FT manifold will have the preheat hose in a different location, but should still fit (at least the one I saw today did).. keep in mind you've got three or four styles of manifolds to choose from a B230FT. You've got the early ones (from 84-89 or so) and the later ones (90 or 91-95). The earlier ones should all be a direct fit, *some* the later ones were designed for Mitsubishi turbos and can be made to fit (with an apparent minimum of effort). Supposedly Volvo had some later style manifolds mated to a smaller Garret turbo (going from the IPD turbo kit listing here). The later manifolds flowed better, and are a bit more delicate, maybe worth the effort to you.

Make sure the b23 exhaust manifold has the O2 sensor bung in the bottom of it. I'm pretty sure that the b230ft exhaust manifolds don't have this bunghole :) If it doesn't, you'll have to move the O2 sensor to the header pipe after the turbo, which may or may not be a problem.

I'm running a cat-less header pipe that doesn't have a provision for the sensor, so I had to find a good b21ft e.m.

Not a deal breaker, but something to think about...
