volvo 780 truck latch cable 700

Last night the cable broke on my 1989 volvo bertone. The only way I can open the trunk now is to push the button on in the glovebox. Is it hard to change the cable...does anyone have any experinence with the procedure with a cable that goes all the was to the back of the driver's door?....Leo

Leo,

This happened to me a short time after I got my ’90 780. I went to the local bicycle shop and bought a new cable with swedge end already on it. It was a standard on the shelf item and length (no, I don’t remember the length). It cost less than $10. I removed the pull in the doorpost and after un-hooking the cable at the trunk latch I pulled the old cable out of the sheath and inserted the new cable into the sheath. A little fussing with the head on the cable to go in the notch of the pull, and it went back together fairly easily.

Good luck,

That sounds like a much better proposition than the *one* trunk cable I saw our shop replace- I didn't do it, but even with the factory part, there was much cursing and discontent. This approach is *definitely* worth a shot.
