interior lights stay on- delay relay?? where is it? 200 1984

Hi all. My wife's '84 240 turbo has suddenly decided to keep it's interior lights on- even with the doors closed- unless you manually switch the dome lights off (it's a wagon). I suspect maybe the delay relay is at fault, but i can't locate it. Anyone know where to find it? Any other ideas about the cause of this problem? Thanks.

If delayed lights was not an original option for your car, you may find a gizmo connected to the door switch for the driver's door.

The delayed courtesy light is standard on GL and some others with the GL trim level.

The Volvo Diagram shows the delay relay to be a round one, located behind the carpet or knee pad or metal channel that's under the driver's left tow.

Look for four wires. BN, W-SB, GN-R, and SB. The BN is ground. SB is black.
The GN-R wire is hot all the time, key in or not.

Good Luck,

Bob

Does your owner's manual say there's a delay? The dome light on my 1992 sometimes stays on with the doors closed because the on-off switch on the door jamb is failing. If I fiddle with it, sometimes I can make the light go off. But later it may come back on again and run down the battery. Hmmmmm--maybe my car is haunted?

I've been just switching the light off manually.

You may need to replace your door jamb switch just like I do.

Good luck.
