OD Problem Solved (thanks BB) 200

I just wanted to thank everyone for the advice in getting my OD off my m46.

Now I know why it was stuck, instead of a gasket the entire thing was Permatex, good lord this car had goofy stuff on it. The other one went right on though!

Question, the 4th gear switch, that works by just grounding the switch so the relay will let the OD kick on? I'm probably swaping out for an M410 or a T5 in a few months (the car is going to be pushing 250-280 hp) so I want to see how long that OD will last if I use it to gear split, and if it will make any difference.

If I just ground the lead, will it work?

I believe the relay will work but I've read lots of warnings about damage to the OD if it is engaged when the tranny is in reverse. The 4th gear switch protects against this. I once had an Austin-Healy in which the OD could be energized in all gears. It was fun to play with but I usually didn't split the gears.

Ya, I might actually hook up a relay in reverse that cuts the OD off if the reverse lights go on.

So just ground it? Makes sense to me.

My dodge ram has a Gear vendor and it is fun to gear split, and mostly just doing it for "scientific" reasons, just to see you know!?
