my 1993 940 has a auto. the overdrive light (arrow) sometimes comes on for no reason, then dissaperas a few seconds later. but it does not affect the shifting of the tranny in any way. has never done this before. normal auto kickdown and manual shifting using the electronic overdrive button still work excellent.. thank you

I agree, check the relay and replace or resolder it. Also, just make certain it's seated in it's socket well. Screwy things will happen when one pin fails to make contact.

Chris,
This sounds like you may have a problem with your overdrive relay. Check out the FAQ for more information regarding this. I had the same issue especially when cold so I removed the relay and resoildered it per the instructions in the 700/900 FAQs. Hope this helps.
