Front Main Seal 200

Hi, I've just started tackling the front main seal, but my Haynes is a little unclear on the topic of removing the main crankshaft bolt(to free the sprocket). Any ideas on how to counter-act my effort to undo the bolt without it turning? THanks,

Aaron

If it's a B21/23, you can use an air impact wrench.

But it's a bad idea to use an impact wrench on a B230 because it has a brittle crank (snap!!)

Volvo sells a counterhold tool that works wonders. I built a direct copy, and mine works flawlessly. Plans for the tool are in the archive.

You should also research the "rope trick" in the archives.

check the 700/900 FAQ 200

Dude, the 700/900 FAQ is littered with ways of keeping the crank in one place while you crank on the bolt. Check there first.
