SPX/Kent-Moore will only sell Volvo tools to Volvo dealers... any similar experiences?

I've been trying for the past 3 days to get a clear answer from SPX/Kent-Moore about whether they make a tool similar to the volvo crank seal installer... They have told me flat out that they will not sell volvo tools to non-dealers...

is there anywhere/anyone else out there who makes volvo specific tools?

Try www.borton.com I have bought tools through Dennis Croonquist, their parts manager. SPX/OTC is a bit of a pain to order through, according to Dennis: their prices change and they are often out of stock. So be patient. Good prices via Borton.

PS..make your own seal installer!

Take a piece of PVC pipe or a fitting and grind it to fit using a circular sander or drum sander depending on whether you're fitting the inside or outside diameter of the seal.

Theoretically you could even put a cap on the end and drill a hole to fit the balancer bolt and use the balancer bolt to press in the seal ala the volvo too. But most people just tap it in. Works fine.

I tried the PVC thing... doesn't work well.

I tried the PVC thing the other day... I was very disappointed. Sloppy job. there is nothing to guarantee that the seal goes in straight.

They have an agreement with Volvo. But not the end of the world.

Borton volvo.com or somesuch will sell you one.
I got mine that way.

Talk to the dealer service dept manager and see if he can order one for you. They are nice tools... can't imagine why the tool dealer wouldn't want more business but whatever, it's his loss. If you pay for it up front, they should be ok with selling it to you. You may actually have to ask the parts manager, but one or the other of them should be able to do it for you. Seems ridiculous not to be able to get a tool you need.
