1985 740 Turbo Wagon front brake identification 700 1985

Hi,
I need to replace the front rotors and brake pads on my 1985 740 Turbo Wagon and have used volvoworld.com's i.d. chart to try and identify what brand and model parts I need. Unfortunately, their i.d. chart, which refers to a printed tag in the driver's side doorjam, only idenitifies a brake type "1" or "2". Mine says "3" and I'm at a loss as to what type brakes this represents. If it's not possible to find out from this number, then what should I look for if I take the wheel off and look at the part itself?
Thanks, Rob Collins

The 700/900 FAQ answers this (and so does the Volvo New Car Features Service Manual), you have Bendix front and ATE rear.

Check www.ipdusa.com for brake pad info. I have Bendix on mine. Do you have the one piece hub/rotor or two piece?

Thanks for the quick reply! In the other reply, John Sargent just suggested that I have Bendix, like you. When you ask whether the hub/rotor is one or two piece, does this mean that there are two versions of the Bendix front brakes?

Having never investigated this part of my car (but I have worked on the brakes of another vehicle), will it be clear whether it's a one or two part hub/rotor if I pull off the wheel?

Many thanks,
Rob

The two part or one part question has to do with the hub and rotor, not the calipers. This is relevant if you want to replace the rotors since which one you need to buy depends on whether your car has had the recommended conversion from a one part system (hub/rotor combination) to a two part system (hub/rotor separate). If you haven't had teh conversion you should have it done.

The calipers on your 1985 are bendix (I have the same car). If you look closely you can see the Bendix insignia stamped on the caliper (the caliper is the item mounted over the rotor that holds the pads).

Bendix is stamped on the caliber.
