whining noise is worrisome. 200 1988

fellow bricks,

i just purchased a 1988 244 with only 154K on it. When the car is in idle i hear a low volume whining noise coming from the area around the fuel pump/fuel filter when i stand out side of the car and listen. this noise is noticable when driving around 50-65mph too.

the car runs great, but what is this? is it notice for concern?

Thank you all!

It sounds like you simply have a noisy pump. It could well be a non-Bosch aftermarket replacement pump. Nothing wrong with that, but they can be noisy. When the in-tank pump fails, the main does get a lot noisier but it's usually more of an odd wwaaaahhhwwarrrrrrrrwaahhh sort of oscillating sound. The other day at an auction there were about 12 S70 and V70's running, all side by side. Sounded like a hornet's nest. All you could hear were singing fuel pumps.

Heh, that's what I thought too. Why does my wife keep saying "you've
got to get rid of something"? ?
