Voltage Regulator Replacement? 700

Hi,

Could someone tell me if I would need to remove the alternator (on a 1990 760 with a V6) in order to replace a bad Voltage Regulator? Is it accessible from the bottom of the car?

Thanks.

Can you see the back of the alternator? Normally the regulator can be easily replaced...you don't even have to disconnect the battery if you're careful.

I'd recommend the IPD variable voltage regulator. You can easily jack up the voltage to 14.2 or 14.5 volts, solves a lot of lighting problems. The later volvos were set to 14.5 I believe....judging from the parts fiche.

Just did this on 85 740 nonturbo. Pretty easy as far as replacement. I found a generic one for $12.00 at a local electronics shop.

I don't know exactly where yours is though. On my 90 740 16v it's easily done also.
