Black Fuel Pump Relay? 200 1980

Hello everyone. I have a question, surprise surprise. I went to the junkyard today and was digging around in the trunk of this 1983 Volvo 244. I found a brand new fuel pump relay. It was still in the wrapping. so i took it up to the counter ad got an ungodly good deal. $5.00. My local Volvo dealer wanted 76.76 for the exact same thing. but now to my question. I goo home and take out my old one. The old one was green, the new one is black. I put it in and turn it to the run m,ode. I don't hear anything from the fuel filler area. SO what elese could it be then?
I know that it is a fuel pump relay because it has the same numbers and same profile and same everything but different colors. If it isn't a fuel pump relay what is it? It is from the same fuel injection system too.
Thank you all.

K-jet fuel pump relays come in all colors: red/white, /blue/white, green/white, black, silver, etc., etc., etc.
The relay won't pull in unless there's spark, that is, unless the engine's cranking.
Did the engine start?

No, the engine did not start. I did notice that it only made the whirring noise when i jumped it. So maybe it is the guys old one. But still, when i jump it, shouldn't that make the car start? I meaqn when i activate the fuel pump, that should make it start correct?

If the owner of the old car was like me, maybe he put an intermittent though not completely broken part back in the box after replacing it with what came out of the box, figuring that someday, somewhere, a slightly defective relay would be better than none at all. When I gave away my last 240 the trunk was littered with stuff like combination bulbs with one good filament, worn but serviceable sparkplugs, half-mummified thermostat gaskets, etc.

Maybe you should slip the cover off the relay and see if the points are burnt.

Resolder any broken traces on it and after testing, keep it in the trunk for a spare.
Spare fp relays are a very good thing to have.
